#66 What are you mindful of? "Thoughts from the Back Deck..."






Psalm 8:4-6
What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet

I have noticed a resurgence of Gnomes and Bigfoot, aka Sasquatch!

Lots of Bigfoot tee-shirts, patches, and, yes, even hats like the one my daughter brought me from Michigan for Christmas. My son even got some Sasquatch soap in assorted manly scents. 

Gnomes. Same! We have a couple hanging out around our house at Christmas time, and we have friends who have gone totally to the Gnomes! Indoors and outdoors, you have to comb through the gnomes! 
It's fun to see and like most harmless fads be it beanie babies or man-buns, this too shall pass.

But...

What if all Gnomes of the world wanted to be Bigfoots OR all the Bigfoots wanted to be a Gnomes? That would be kind of sad, wouldn't it? What would be the result? Either all the Bigfoots would disappear or all the Gnomes would! 

So much for variety!

There is a lot of variety in the Human race but make no mistakes, there is only one human race. 

Sometimes, we want to blend in or be something or someone else. 

Sometimes people want to divide us "by things" or "into things" for a purpose that does not serve God.

Yet the word of God is clear that how you are on the outside should not be our sole (or soul!) focus.

Straight hair
Male
Female
Black
White
Purple with polka dots
American
Canadian 
Asian
Irish
Australian
Tasmanian
Iranian
Islander
Ethiopian
Sudanese
Blind
Deaf
In a wheelchair...

Whatever you are...first and foremost, you are God's creation. You have a special place in His eye.

"...made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet..."

Next time you look in the mirror, don't wish to be something different. Don't fret about your skin color or your eye color. Don't wish to be somewhat older or somewhat younger, or a little taller or a little shorter.

If you are a Gnome, ok. 
If you are a Bigfoot, ok. 

God loves you through His son, Jesus, our Messiah/ Christ. He pursues a relationship with you!

More of my orchids are coming into bloom. Once a week, I take time to carefully water each plant. I am careful that I don't get water in the plant's stem and where the leaf grows out of it, because it will often rot and destroy the leaf. In Florida's, "winter season" I make sure each plant gets exposed to colder temps for a week or more, but careful not to be exposed to freezing temps. That cold exposure allows the plant to reset and assures the plant to bloom in the spring. Sometimes I need to re-pot the orchids. A bigger pot. A change in the medium the orchids are potted in is not an uncommon task. I don't spend hours on the orchids but I do consistently care for them. Being faithful to little things gives me a beautiful benefit, and I enjoy the long-lasting blooms! As a pastor, I have had people come to me and express a desire to get involved. #77 Thoughts from the back deck of my friend's house in Michigan... Two Roads.

#15 Shorter Days, Thoughts from the back deck...

#15, Shorter days?! I sit on my back deck at about the same time every morning but the morning light marks the changes of seasons once again. This photo is from a Keys sunrise fishing trip a few years back, I still hold to the premise that a bad day fishing is still better than a good day at work. Time appears to be short.  More darkness than light.  That is another premise I hear a lot these days. People who feel that way are not talking about the change of seasons. There is a certain amount of anxiousness we can feel as we look at the world. I feel it too as many of you do. I have to fight buying into that premise.  Why do I fight it and why should you fight it?  The premise is based in fear. And fear is a tool of the devil. He uses it to bring doubt in Jesus and that is never a good place to look at life from.  What if time is short? What does that mean? That Jesus will be coming soon.
