#50 A great lie! Thoughts from the Back Deck...
“...You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil...” ~Genesis 3
Ever notice what Satan, the serpent, does here? He does not try to tell Adam and Eve there is no God. Satan attacks the goodness of God.
"Hey, Eve! God is keeping you from cool and awesome things! There is so much you need to experience and you need to live! Open your eyes! Everything is good for you!"
Today, Satan still comes at us.
Not everything is good for us.
I was listening to a newscast this morning talking about the addictive nature of META aka Facebook and Instagram. The causes of depression connected to social media use in teens is clear according to studies.
Not everything is good for us.
Too much fast food.
Not everything is good for us.
Too many hours working.
Not everything is good for us.
Unrestrained and uninhibited anything is... not good for us or our relationships with each other.
But also realized Satan attacks differently today...
In the garden, it was "doubt the goodness of God."
Today it is prevalent to believe: There is NO God.
The results are the same which is there are no limits except the ones you decide to set for yourself. There is no truth. There is only your truth and someone else's truth...and...and... What a great lie we have been told and we tell each other! We are each our own god!
Back to the same basic lie aren't we? Eve and Adam wanted to be God.
Ecclesiastes 3: What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.
That is a heavy thought but also think of it in the light of what we know about God. Jesus continues to forgive us. Jesus continues to love us. Jesus continues to show mercy to us even as we continue to try to be god! Jesus' blood continues to cover us.
There is nothing new under the sun. There is one "god", and we are not it!
Peace out,
Andy
