#49 "Those Days". Thoughts from the Back Deck...
There are "those days". "Those days" when I do not want hear the news, not see the light of the morning sunshine through the window blinds. "Those days" where I would rather stay in bed all day.
I know some struggle with these thoughts in ways I can't begin to understand. Please let me know so that we can pray together. Your struggles with depression are real. While it is impossible for me to walk in your shoes that does not mean we can't walk together. You are not alone. There is help, not hopelessness.
For me, "those days" where I want to shut the door on the world, are days where I usually find myself spiritually dry.
I miss the fall of the year when the colors change. Green to many shades of yellows and reds. All too soon the leaves drop. At first, the leaves are still as soft and pliable as they were when attached to the tree but soon they change. The leaves begin to crunch underfoot. Instead of being soft and pliable they become brittle and break. Apart from the tree they dry out and die.
1 Peter 1:24-25 for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you.
Even as we face the unrelenting forward movement of time and daily aging of our bodies we have an eternal soul.
Don't neglect to water it.
Don't starve it of its necessary food.
It is one thing to have a moment of feeling spiritually dry. Having one of "those days" is part of our journey.
And yes, there are even seasons when we may feel it's a drought! One of those seasons to weather through.
"...but the word of the Lord remains forever. And this is the good news that was (and is) preached to you."
Stay connected to the word.
Stay connected to your church.
Stay connected in prayer even if it is praying the psalms.
Stay connected so that your soul receives the spiritual water and food that is given to you through Jesus.
Peace out,
Andy
