#29 What a wonderful world. Thoughts from the back deck...

Louis Armstrong

What A Wonderful World"

I see trees of green
Red roses too
I see them bloom
For me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

I see skies of blue
And clouds of white
The bright blessed day
The dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow
So pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces
Of people going by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying
"I love you"

I hear babies cry
I watch them grow
They'll learn much more
Than I'll never know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Oh yeah

I remember this song being used in the Robin Williams movie "Good Morning Vietnam." This song played in sharp contrast to the pictures on the screen which reminded the moviegoers of the ravages of war.

Armstrong, lived from 1919-1971. Difficult years to say the least.

We truly live in a world of great beauty... and...great ugliness.

I think of the apostle Peter writing this verse: But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9).

Reminding the reader of that day that we truly live in a world of great beauty... and...great ugliness.

Written during very fierce persecution where Christians regardless of race, social status, or nationality...were the hunted.

Written to remind us today that we are a people in no need of a flag, a piece of land to be flight over, a border to divide, a language to separate, a skin color to mark a difference, an education to display, a way of living to be pointed to and classified by... These things in this world have nothing to do with God's kingdom. You are filled with the light of Jesus. You are His. He has taken you by the hand and will bring you eventually out of this world and into his kingdom as his people.

"I see friends shaking hands
Saying, 'How do you do?'
They're really saying
'I love you'...

...Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Oh yeah"

Peace out,
Andy
